Colonel James Brill, a 43-year-old New York City native experienced in both artillery and ordnance, has been named TOW Project Manager. Brill, who comes to Redstone from Fort Lewis, Wash., where he commanded the 593rd Support Group, succeeds Colonel Robert Huntzinger who has retired from the Army. TOW is the Army’s long range tank killer that is also fielded with the Marines and 21 foreign countries. Effective against moving and stationary targets, TOW is mounted on a variety of combat vehicles, including helicopters. An honor graduate of Syracuse University where he was named a Distinguished Military Graduate, Brill holds a master’s in General Management from New Mexico State University. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, National War College, and has completed several artillery, guided missile and ordnance courses. Among overseas assignments, he was deputy and later Commander of the 3rd Ordnance Battalion (AMMO) in Vietnam and was advisor to the Korean Army Chief of Ordnance on guided missile logistics. His missile background includes stints as operations officer for Nike Zeus and Project Officer for Shillelagh during their research and development. Elsewhere, he has served in the Pentagon, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, as Chief of Authorizations and Special Projects Branch, and Chief of Plans, Programs and Budget Division. He holds the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star with “V” device and two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, and Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
