James L. Flinn III - Deputy to the Commanding General

Jim Flinn

James L. Flinn III was the Deputy to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) from 1 July 2000 until 3 July 2004.

Mr. Flinn is a native of Dothan, Alabama. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance & Management received from the University of Alabama in 1968 and a Master of Science Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1974.

Mr. Flinn entered civil service at Red River Army Depot (RRAD) in 1969 as a Logistics Intern. In 1970, Mr. Flinn went to Germany serving in various capacities from Action Officer to Division Chief at what we now know as the 200th Theater Army Materiel Management Center (200th TAMMC) in Zweibrucken. In 1975, Mr. Flinn commenced his many Washington assignments - first at U.S. Army Materiel Development and Readiness Command (DARCOM), now the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC), serving as a Supply Management Specialist; then in 1976, he was assigned to the Department of the Army, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics (DA DCSLOG) as the Chief, Logistics Systems Division. In 1979, Mr. Flinn transferred to the U.S. Army Armament Readiness Command (AARCOM) in Rock Island, Illinois as Chief of Policy and Programs Division. In 1981, he served as Deputy Director, Materiel Management at the U.S. Army Troop Support and Aviation Materiel Readiness Command (TSARCOM) in St. Louis, Missouri. In the fall of 1981, Mr. Flinn transferred back to Washington, DC to DA DCSLOG as Assistant Director for Supply Management and Promotion to Senior Executive Service (SES). In 1983, he became Deputy Director, Supply Maintenance and Transportation at Headquarters, U.S. Army Materiel Command. In 1984, he returned home to Huntsville, Alabama and joined the PATRIOT Project Office of the U.S. Army Missile Command (MICOM) as Assistant Project Manager for Support. In December 1988, he became Director, Missile Logistics Center (MLC), NKA, Integrated Materiel Management Center (IMMC).

Mr. Flinn's career is a distinguished one. In 1993 and 1998, he was awarded the Department of the Army Senior Executive Service (SES) Meritorious Executive, Presidential Rank Award. In 1991, he was selected as one of AMC's Ten Outstanding Personnel of the Year, and he was selected as MICOM's Supervisor/Manager of the Year. In 1990, he was selected as the Logistician of the Year by the Society of Logistics Engineers (SOLE). He is the recipient of the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the PACE Award. He was an Honor Graduate from the AMC Intern Logistics Center in 1970, and again, in 1976, from the Logistics Executive Development Course.

Mr. Flinn is a past Chairman of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Society of Logistics Engineers (SOLE); a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and member of the Board of Directors for the Local Government Task Force, Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and past member of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Flinn retired on 3 July 2004.
